Me & Jeep

I love Jeep very much, a powerful go-anywhere machine with excellent handling.

In 1985 my father bought me my first Jeep, a 1984 CJ-7 with 6 cylinder in-line 258cid engine. It uses a Dana T-18 4-speed transmission with Dana 300 transfer case. The axles were open diff Dana 35 in front and AMC 20 limited slip differential at the rear. It was the days when Jeeps were being used as street machines in Jakarta. So I put a 282-degree camshaft and 6-barrel Weber carb on it. Really fast... with painful braking of course hahaha... I really love my first CJ-7, I cried when she has to be sold in 1989 for some school tuition of mine.

In 1990 I bought a YJ Wrangler while studying in the US. It was totally stock, not much story on it, I use it as my daily driven car. Well, I did some light off-roading with it also.

Back to Jakarta in 1994, I bought a 1977 CJ-5 from a friend. The CJ-5, named "Belbon" was my greatest Jeep ever. I still keep the chassis in my garage. It uses AMC 258 cid in-line 6 cylinder engine. The transmission used a stock Dana T-150 3-speed which has very high range 1st gear. The transfer case was a Dana 300 with 2.72 low-range ratio. A fully locked Dana 44 with 4.27 gear ratio at the rear and a Dana 30 open diff in front, the CJ-5 go just anywhere, hardcore 4-wheeler. The suspension system was using Skyjacker leafsprings and Rancho shockabsorbers. For recovery it is equipped with a Warn 8274 in front. I retire him in 2004 after a roll-over, he is quite tired already.

In 2004, I bought a CJ-7, the Devil I called him. The setup on him was for off-road racing purpose. I don't really like this Jeep because it has a devil in it. Almost troublesome in every trip and races I joined.

In 2005, I bought a CJ-5, a total rebuild of my old Belbon. An excellent off-road machine.

I was married in April 2006, and my wife brought over her black 1981-made CJ-7, Si Item. She is our hardcore 4-wheeler now. I will tell the story in separate entry.

Our Previous Red Jeep

This is a picture of our previous Red Jeep, we call him the Devil. It really has a devil in it, don't know from where it came though. We retired him because of the devil also. A fully-equipped off-road machine. Good bye, Devil... live peacefully in Jeep Heaven.

Our Jeeps

We have 2 Jeeps currently, a CJ-7 and a Cherokee XJ. They are both black in colour, we love Jeeps in black.

Our CJ-7, we called her "Si Item" is really an off-road machine, fully equipped with hardcore off-roading tools. She has travel to lots of places, into amazing spots in Indonesia where not many people has visited. She joined some competitions too and has won some trophys and honours.

The Cherokee XJ, we called him "Cokre", is our daily driven vehicle. He is a "just-go-anywhere" vehicle of ours. We go to work with him, shopping, partying, and even off-roading. Really a Jeep with its advantages of power, comfort and beauty.

These are the story of Si Item and Cokre, Jeep beasts from different generations that fill our live with a passion of adventure.
